4th Wall Stage Company, in partnership with Museum of Worcester, will be presenting the full-length poem The Wasteland by T.S. Eliot to celebrate Poetry Month this April. Published in 1922, it is widely regarded as one of the most important English-language poems of the 20th century and a central work of modernist poetry. The Waste Land does not follow a single narrative or feature a consistent style or structure. The poem shifts between voices of satire and prophecy, and features abrupt and unannounced changes of narrator, location, and time, conjuring a vast and dissonant range of cultures and literatures.
Actor John Morello, well-known for his original work Dirt which has toured the United States for over twenty years, creates a mesmerizing performance of this classic poem. Accompanied by an original ambient score blended with captivating images and lighting, this performance is a multi-sensory invitation to one of the most important poems of the 20th century. Morello and a team of world class artists have created a thrilling work that brings to life Eliot’s “heap of broken images" taking audiences not only around the world but back and forth in time with Eliot’s prescient words. 4th Wall Stage invites you to come experience The Waste Land and see why The Atlantic Monthly raves “One hundred years after publication… its vision has never been more terrifying.”
The 45-minute performances will be a world premiere at Museum of Worcester for six dates only. Morello is in the process of bringing this show on the road here in the States and internationally. Just in time for Women's History Month, 4th Wall brings the story of a playwright, unsettled by a personal crisis, who flees to Florence to study the letters between Galileo and his eldest daughter Maria Celeste, whom he has taught to transcribe his work. Caught up in the threats against her father, Maria must abandon her work and join a convent. The writer’s discovery of Maria’s strength and tenacity inspires her own pursuit of purpose. Alternating between past and present, this play is a personal examination of faith, forgiveness, and the cost of seeking and speaking truth. Starring Robbin Joyce, Jerry Bisantz and Sandy Clancy.
